You know, it’s funny. Other than KQED, my local NPR station, the radio station that I listen to the most is Michigan State University’s student radio station, Impact 89FM, call letters WDBM.
I discovered that station when I was a teenager, which turned me on to many of my favorite bands. The first R.E.M. song that I heard was “World Leader Pretend” on that station, and it made me drop everything to go find that album.
I’ve listened to other radio stations over the years, but I still keep on returning to Impact. They give me everything that I’m looking for in an alternative radio station. They play lots of great new music and still turn me on to new bands. They also dip back into their catalogue and play new wave, grunge, and classic alternative. It’s just perfect.
